The sheer volume of soccer in the world makes it next to impossible to keep up with everything. Here are three teams that might not be getting the headlines but are worthy of attention, given their strong starts.
Sevilla: Second place, La Liga (20 points)
Samir Nasri has been the primary playmaker for a Sevilla side that also boasts an aggressive defense.
It’s hard to call Sevilla’s performance surprising. They are, after all, three-time defending Europa League champions. But this year is different. Although previous manager Unai Emery was happy to sacrifice league success to focus on Cup success, new boss Jorge Sampaoli has his team competing at the very top of the Premier League table. He brought the aggressive pressing style that made his time with the Chilean national team unique and modified it with more calming possession to get the most out of an idiosyncratic roster.
