The agent of Napoli defender Kaludou Koulibaly has reiterated his client’s desire to leave the Serie A club, confirming that both Chelsea and Everton are still interested in signing him.
Koulibaly has just a year left to run on his contract with the Azzurri, who have been trying to convince him to extend that deal. However, his agent Bruno Satin says they are unlikely to succeed with Koulibaly’s mind already made up.
“Let’s be clear about it, I was in Dimaro [Napoli’s preseason training camp] last Saturday and we summarised the situation, which has been pretty tense recently, and I didn’t get the feeling that we are at the stage where we can reach an agreement,” Satin told Radio CRC. “Maybe the [Napoli] bosses presumed it to be like that, but the player still wants to leave and not renew his contract.”
Napoli threatened to take legal action against the player after he expressed his unhappiness at the Serie A club in an interview with L’Equipe last month. Napoli president Aurelio De Laurentiis accused Chelsea of tapping the 25-year-old up and threatened legal action against them, and this has served only to antagonise the player further, according to his agent.
“The signals coming from the club are not motivating for the lad,” he said. “They say he’s a great player, but they wanted rid of us last year, saying that he wasn’t focused, but then he showed everybody his quality last season.
“He could decide to stay on another year if a clause is inserted in his contract, not a high one like Pipita [Gonzalo Higuain] — with that nobody really knows whether Napoli or Juve have done good business, all we know is it’s hugely disappointing for the fans.
Kaludou Koulibaly’s agent says they have no plans to renew with Napoli.
“If Napoli want to keep him, they need to make us different offers, but what I can say right now is that there is no margin for a contract renewal.”
Those Napoli fans could yet be disappointed further by losing Koulibaly this summer, should a suitable offer be made, although he would not consider a bid from the Bianconeri.
“I can tell the fans not to worry because he’s not going to Juve,” Satin said. “He’s not going to strengthen any of Napoli’s rivals. Chelsea and Everton are still interested as they’re looking for a top quality central defender.”
