Juventus closes in on €20M 'Gabigol'
The Serie A champion is planning to offer its teenage target a massive salary package to convince him to reject a contract renewal with Santos, which is keen to keep him.
Juventus is now favored to sign Santos wonderkid Gabriel Barbosa, as Chelsea’s interest cools in the young striking sensation.
Having been linked closely to the 19-year-old, the Premier League side has yet to make a formal offer for his services. Juve directors trust that a bid will not be forthcoming from Stamford Bridge, leaving them clear to negotiate a 20 million euro ($22.2 million) deal for the Brazil Olympic forward.
The Italian champion plans to convince “Gabigol” with a lucrative contract offer. The teenager will receive a contract proposal worth €3M ($3.3M) a year, far higher than the €820,000 ($911,000) plus bonuses offered by Santos if he signs an extension until 2021.
“It is not certain that I will sign at Santos, no.”
At just 19, the forward has broken into the Brazil team in recent months and is one of the stars of a Santos side that is fighting for the Brazilian Championship, having scored four goals so far this season as the Peixe sit in fourth.
