Reports have suggested that Jose Mourinho is considering Newcastle’s Moussa Sissoko as an alternative to Paul Pogba should the deal collapse in the coming weeks.

According to Le 10 Sport, the new Manchester United manager is wary that the deal to sign the Juventus midfielder is still in the early stages, and has been preparing a shortlist of those players who could act as an alternative, with Sissoko the primary target.

Portugal v France - Final: UEFA Euro 2016

The deal to sign Pogba is stalling due to the Frenchman’s consideration of signing a new contract with the Old Lady, with the Manchester Evening News also suggesting that the player’s agent Mino Raiola has reported that Pogba could be tempted to sign on to an extension with the Serie A club.

Moussa Sissoko played a significant role in France’s journey to the final of the Euros against Portugal, and displayed a man of the match performance against Cristiano Ronaldo’s side despite losing out 1-0 in extra-time. His performances have caught the eye of many of the top clubs in Europe, including United.

The 26-year-old French international has already told Newcastle boss Rafa Benitez that he does not want to stay at St. James’ Park to play in the Championship next season, as well as wanting to play European football, which Mourinho could offer.

However, Newcastle have demanded an astonishing £35m for the player after his Euro displays, which has put off several clubs from making a formal bid.

In other transfer news, it has also been reported that Mourinho is set to step up his chase for West Ham United’s young English midfielder Reece Oxford, with the Portuguese coach looking to bid £10m for the 17-year-old.
