Giuseppe Bellusci joins Empoli on loan from Leeds United

Giuseppe Bellusci made 52 appearances for the Championship side since joining the side in 2014.

Giuseppe Bellusci has returned to Italy to join Empoli on loan after a difficult spell at Leeds United.

The 26-year-old moved to Elland Road from Catania two years ago but controversy and poor performances marred the Calabrian’s experience in West Yorkshire.

Serie A club Empoli have offered Bellusci an escape route by recruiting him on a season-long loan deal, with the Tuscans holding an option to sign the former Italy Under-21 international permanently.

Bellusci was among six Leeds players who pulled out of the match day squad with injury the day before a Championship meeting with Charlton in April 2015 and he was dropped by recent Whites head coach Steve Evans shortly after criticising his selection policy on social media.

A statement published on Empoli’s official website confirmed the switch.
