Dani Alves to wear No. 23 in honor of LeBron James
The Brazilian said his choice of jersey number at new club Juventus is a tribute to the basketball superstar.
Dani Alves will wear the No. 23 shirt at Juventus in homage to LeBron James.
The Brazilian completed his transfer to the Italian giant from Barcelona on Monday, and he noted in his introductory news conference that he selected his new number in honor of the Cleveland Cavaliers star.
“I chose No. 23 after LeBron James, who is a player who doesn’t rest on his laurels but always reinvents himself, always finds new records to be beaten,” Alves said. “It’s a number that makes me feel the same thing, as I come to a new country and a new team and have to reinvent myself.”

The fullback sported a No. 6 jersey in his final season at Barcelona, which mirrors James’ choice of jersey number at former club Miami Heat. Despite being a year and a half older than James, Alves stated that he wanted to emulate the basketball star in his move to Serie A.
“After leaving Miami, where he was enjoying a good career, he’s come back with a bang and reinvented himself,” Alves said. “It’s a decision that brought about my choice to move to a new country, meet new teammates and experience another type of football.”
