Liverpool appear to have turned their attention to signing AC Milan defender Mattia De Sciglio, with the Reds still looking to replace the out-of-favour Alberto Moreno, the Express report.
German boss Jurgen Klopp has been busy in his first summer transfer window at Anfield, but is still keen to bolster his defensive options ahead of the new campaign, with Milan’s Italian fullback now at the top of his wish list.
The 23-year-old has been earmarked as a potential replacement for Spanish international and current first choice left-back Alberto Moreno, who has been criticised for his inconsistent and poor performances in a Liverpool shirt, most recently in their Europa League final loss to Sevilla in May.
Former Liverpool defender Jamie Carragher has been a high profile figure to heavily criticise the Spaniard, and has made it clear that he feels Liverpool need a fresh face in that position:
“Going forward for Liverpool, that is the area Jurgen Klopp has to change in the summer [left-back]”.
Despite being under contract until 2018, Milan are considering the possibility of selling the player, with the Italian international struggling with injuries last season, making just 29 appearances after a two month absence with a heel injury.
Sciglio could be the answer to Liverpool’s defensive issues, who has immense versatility, with the ability to play on either full-back position, as well as an attacking winger. He has also impressed with Italy at this summer’s Euros, securing his place as Italy’s first choice left-back.
